Acer Liquid Glow - A Good-Looking Smartphone for Less

By Rizwan Ahmad - 08 January 2013 No Comments
Acer phones are not the first that you might think of when you want to upgrade your smartphone but there are several which are worth considering.  The Acer Liquid Glow has plenty of attractive features and if you can overlook some of its sticky points then you could find yourself with a very respectable handset.  One of the main advantages is the price tag – it is much lower than you would expect and helps it to compete well in the marketplace.

Overview
The design of the phone is one of the reasons why most buyers would expect it to cost more.   The fascia is flat with curved sides and the handset is not overwhelmed with buttons and ports.  The 3.5 mm headphone jack is a great feature and the micro USB can be found at the bottom of the phone.  The screen is 3.7 inches and there are good viewing angles.  The colours and brightness are both sharp which is also a bonus.

Using the Phone
The operating system and user interface should also keep most people happy.  The phone uses Android Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system which is a plus point for the handset.  It has been added on in a stock version but there are plenty of ways in which the handset can be customised. There are 5 homescreens and plenty of apps which can be added in. Add shortcuts to your favourite apps on the homepages and everything you use most often can be available at the touch of a button.

Camera
The camera on the phone offers a respectable 5 megapixels as well as an LED flash, although some users may find the lack of HD video recording a bit of a disappointment. However, the features that are included will meet the needs of most users. Images taken are more than adequate and perfect for those who want to add them to social networking sites or send by email.

Internet Use
You can connect to the internet with the help of 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS or Bluetooth, among other options and this makes it perfect for users no matter where they are.   The browser on the phone is ideal and you should find that you move from one page to another fairly easily.  You can even add Google Chrome if you prefer to use a different browser.

Memory and Power
On-board memory is low, so a microSD card is a must for anyone who wants to take a lot of photos or store music.

The handset has a 1GHz single core processor which is more than adequate for most of the functions on the handset.  Speed is not as fast as on some top of the range handsets but the everyday user will not find it slow at all.  Battery life is not fantastic but a moderate user should get a day from it.  Anyone who wants to spend time playing games on the phone will need to charge it much more frequently.

The Acer Liquid Glow is the ideal starter phone as it has everything that the user needs.  If you want a reasonably priced handset then you have nothing to lose by giving this one a go!
