The Best Mobile Phone of 2013…
Of course, we can’t be sure what the absolute best is going to be, but we’re relatively certain, given Samsung’s recent history, that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is going to be the best top end model this year. It’s coming with a huge 1.9 Mhz quad core processor, or an even huger 1.6 MHz octo-core processor, which is sure to make it the fastest phone on the market. It’s also got the Samsung signature Super AMOLED five inch screen, 64 GB of internal storage and a massive 2 GB or RAM. It’s got a 13 MP camera, smart screen (that knows when you’re looking at it, so doesn’t switch off, even without any input), and wireless charging too. With the supreme specs of the Galaxy S4 we really can’t see anything else coming close in the next few months.

2013’s Best Selling Phone…
Once again, though we can’t be sure, there’s little doubt what the year’s best selling model is going to be. Come September, Apple are going to hold their regular press conference and announce whatever the new iPhone is going to be. Whether it’s the iPhone 6, or more likely the iPhone 5S, the newest iPhone model is going to be a top seller, simply based on recent history. There’s little concrete info at this point on what exactly the features of the new iPhone are going to be, but it should pack some serious processing power and hopefully have a bigger screen to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy series. We’ll have to wait for the formal announcement to find out the details, but whatever it is, the new iPhone will be a top seller, whether or not it’s actually the best mobile phone of the year.

The Best Value…
LG might not be the most well-known mobile phone manufacturer, but they have produced some great handsets in recent years. And the new LG Optimus L7 2 looks to continue that trend. Sneak peeks have shown a hand set that’s stylish and curiously feature laden for a budget smart phone. There’s a full 8 MP camera, and the screen has good resolution and is a decent size. It doesn’t have the most powerful processor we’ve ever seen, which might make heavy tasks like web surfing a little slow, but for a hand set that’s projected to retail for a little over a hundred pounds, it’s an excellent budget friendly option.

Finally, a Kid Friendly Phone…
Okay, there are currently a couple of handsets that are marketed towards kids. But these tend to be of the emergency phone variety that have no internet connectivity and only store a couple of phone numbers. The Samsung Galaxy Young on the other hand is a true kid’s smart phone. It’s not powerful, it’s not fast, it doesn’t even have great internal storage (though it does have a nice screen, as we’d expect from a Samsung device). What it does have, however, is the ability to lock data limits (meaning your kid can’t run up a huge bill), and a variety of other parental controls attached to it. If you’re looking to buy a phone for a young teen, then the Galaxy Young is going to more than meet your needs, and will give you the ability to keep your kid safe and away from inappropriate material. Plus, it’s set to retail contract free at below the hundred and fifty pound mark.

The Dark Horse…
ZTE is not most people’s first choice when it comes to brand name for a mobile phone. However, the new ZTE Grand S looks like it might be an amazing device. We can’t be sure, but the specs certainly look amazing. It runs a 1.7 GHz quad core processor as well as 2 GB or RAM, making it one of the most powerful phones on the market, as well as fast and responsive. And it’s got the full five inch screen that we’d expect from something like a Samsung Galaxy. What we don’t know is the price. Given ZTE’s penchant for producing budget conscious models, the Grand S might retail at a fraction of the price of comparable models like the Samsung Galaxy S III, for example. If that’s the case, then the ZTE Grand S could end up becoming the best mobile phone deal of 2013. Only time will tell…

Some Competition for Samsung…
The difference between a tablet computer and a smart phone is getting smaller and smaller. The release of the Samsung Galaxy Note, with its huge tablet like screen but full phone capability just proved the point that we might not need both a tablet and a phone. And the Galaxy Note II was one of the best phones of 2012, despite being almost a tablet. So far, not that many mobile manufacturers have jumped on this new trend, but that’s about to change. The Huawei Ascend Mate is going to be a 6.1 inch phone. There aren’t many details available yet, but in general Huawei produces decent phones for budget prices. If they can do the same with the Ascend Mate, and price it below the Samsung Galaxy Note II, then they might just be on to something.
