Now the latest report from Alcatel-Lucent’s Motive Security Lab is really shocking as we find that despite small share in the mobile market, the mobile infections delivered through mobile networks are spreading most quickly through Microsoft Windows platform.
Microsoft Windows platform

This conclusion was drawn out after researching over 100 million devices and it was found that the devices working on windows platform accounted for 80 percent of all the infections that circulated via mobile networks in Quarter 2 of  year 2015.

“Most of the people find it surprising that a huge proportion of Windows/PC devices are involved “Alcatel-Lucent said in its report. Moreover Windows/PCs are responsible for a large percentage of the malware infections observed because they are connected to mobile network through mobile Wi-Fi devices or simply tethered through smart phones. The malware moves very easily as the mobile network becomes the access network of choice for many Windows PCs.

The reason for the surprising fact that Windows laptops and PCs spread malware through mobile networks is very well explained by the report from Alcatel as mentioned below:

1- A vast majority of users connect their computers to the Internet via dongles and other mobile Wi-Fi devices.
2- Users also tether Internet to their computer from their handset or mobile dongles, and vice versa.
3- Furthermore, people readily connect their handsets to their computers to move files.

This is how most of the malware spreads, the report noted.

Alcatel-Lucent noted that Google's continuous efforts have bolster the overall security in its mobile operating system. iOS and other operating systems are fairly secure. Moreover the researchers touted BlackBerry's controlled app distribution environment and wrote that it is able to keep infections at bay. As for Android, its share of the total infection dropped from 50 percent to 20 percent.
