The Droid line and the Desire line seem to look incredibly similar, for example, and it’s actually pretty difficult to tell the difference between a Droid and a Desire phone just by looking at them. However, it’s true that not all lines are created equal, otherwise, why would HTC be investing money into producing two different lines of phones? To prove this point we took the top of the line Droid phone (the Droid DNA) and pitted it against the top of the line Desire phone (the Desire X). Just because both phones are the best in their line doesn’t actually mean that they’re the same phone. It soon became very clear that one line was far superior to the other…
The Droid DNA: Why It’s a Great Phone…
Firstly, we need to talk about speed. The Droid is just way faster than the Desire. It runs a much faster processor (running a 1500 MHz processor compared to the 1000 MHz one on the Desire), which makes it more powerful and more responsive. Couple that with two and a half times more RAM (2 MB versus 0.786 MB) and you have a phone that’s snappy, incredibly responsive and far better suited to multitasking and running multiple applications.

The Droid also has four times more internal storage (coming with 16 GB of memory versus the 4 GB of memory on the Desire), meaning you can store four times more data, pictures and music on the Droid. The screen is far larger on the Droid, measuring in at a full five inches, compared to a mere four inches on the Desire. Plus the screen resolution is higher (by a factor of about five and a half times) and there’s a massive ninety percent more PPI (pixels per inch). This means a brighter, clearer more vivid display. Plus, the in-built camera is higher resolution too (8 MP versus 5 MP on the Desire), and it shoots in full HD, unlike the Desire.
The Desire X: Why It’s Not Such a Great Phone…
Basically, despite being top of the line in its class, the Desire X is absolutely no match for the Droid DNA. It does have the advantage of being slightly smaller (by around thirty percent), as well as lighter (120 g versus 138 g), but that’s pretty much it…
Nothing’s Equal…
This just proves our point that you need to choose not only your manufacturer but your line carefully as well. Though the Desire X and Droid DNA may look relatively similar, and though they are both tops of the line, those lines are markedly different. The Droid DNA is by far better phone than the Desire X…
