This could be really big and shocking news for all Huawei fans and especially for users who reside within the US. According to the report from Reuters and as part of the US administration executive order of banning Huawei last week, Google has suspended some of its business with Huawei, including the transfer of hardware, software, and technical services except those publicly available via open source licensing, this was told by a source familiar with the matter, Reuters added.
“Huawei will only be able to use the public version of Android and will not be able to get access to proprietary apps and services from Google,” the source said.
This means that Huawei will now lose all the access from the Google Play Store and Google Play Services except for the open source software like Android.
Reuters added that the tech giant “Huawei Technologies Co Ltd will lose access to updates to the Android operating system, and the next version of its smartphones outside of China will also lose access to popular applications and services including the Google Play Store, Gmail and YouTube apps.”
With this ban, Huawei won’t be able to put the popular Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube and the Chrome browser in its future smartphones. This is because these applications are not covered by the open source license and require a commercial agreement with Google.
According to ArsTechnica report, there shouldn’t be a major impact on Huawei’s smartphone business in the US with this ban, because Huawei’s smartphone business isn’t that big in the US. This won’t affect Huawei in its home country China, as Google doesn’t do much business in China either.
