Anthony Mackie is gearing up for what should be another high-octane TV role, following his debut as the new Captain America in Disney+’s ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ series. A ‘Twisted Metal’ TV series is in the last stages of development, according to Deadline, and will be pitched to buyers soon.

Sony TV and PlayStation Productions will produce and appear in the series, which will be directed by Mackie. As John Doe, the action hero will take the lead in the series. He doesn’t know who he is in the video games, in which he appeared in two, and hopes to learn more about himself one day.

If you’re unfamiliar with the video game franchise, it’s essentially a beat-em-up with weaponized automobiles and high-speed chases. The original game in the series was launched in 1995 on PlayStation and PC, and has inspired several sequels and spin-offs, the most recent of which was released in 2012 on PlayStation 3.

Over time, the demolition derby-style game has leaned more heavily on the horror/pyromaniac side of things, with characters like Sweet Tooth/Needles Kane, Mr. Grimm, and Dollface making appearances in the mainstream media. They’re all a little crazy, and they each have their own set of cars and particular skills.

We imagine the ‘Twisted Metal’ TV series, if handled correctly, becoming as popular as, if not more popular than, the video games it is based on; we’re thinking something along the lines of ‘Deadpool’ meets ‘Mad Max,’ but more TV-friendly.

In other Anthony Mackie news, the actor is preparing to play the lead in his first Marvel Cinematic Universe film. He’ll be engaged in the fourth installment of the ‘Captain America’ superhero series at some time in the near future, continuing his Cap legacy.
