Rockstar Games and Remedy Entertainment are teaming up to make a remake its highly acclaimed Max Payne 1+2 game. The remake will be funded by Rockstar Games, and will have the same budget as Remedy’s other high-profile titles. It will be developed using the Northlight engine and Remedy will receive royalties when Rockstar recovers the development costs. Regardless, it should be a fun time for fans.

The first game in the Max Payne series was released over 20 years ago. The bullet-time mechanic and storytelling pushed the boundaries of gaming and left a lasting impression on a new generation of players. The developers have since announced remakes for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Hopefully, the new version will include a hi-def Sam Lake!

The game will feature two versions of the Max Payne franchise, each with its own storyline and gameplay. Both versions will be released as single titles on the PlayStation 5, Xbox One S, and PC.

The remake will use Remedy’s Northlight engine, which was used in the development of Quantum Break and Control. Rockstar Games will finance the project on a triple-award production budget, and the company will be responsible for distribution, marketing, and publication.

The Max Payne series was a hit with the Xbox 360 and PC. The sequel, Fall of Max Payne, was released in December 2003. Remedy Entertainment later followed up with Max Payne 3 and released it on the PlayStation 3. The series has sold more than 7.5 million copies worldwide. As well as Max Payne, the company is also developing the Alan Wake series and the Control game.
