Next year, AMD will release two new platforms: the SP5 for EPYC Genoa and the AM5 for Ryzen Raphael, both of which will support the new Zen 4 core architecture. Vendors such as Cool Server, which has exhibited industrial-grade cooling solutions for both families, have begun to sell coolers for the forthcoming platforms. The vendor has already listed as many as 9 coolers for AMD AM5 ‘Zen 4 Raphael’ & SP5 ‘Zen 4 Genoa sockets on its website.

The primary point of contention with this leak is that it shows both AM5 and SP5 socket types for AMD’s forthcoming EPYC and Ryzen processors. The Zen 4 powered Raphael for AM5 and the Zen 4 powered Genoa for SP5 will be the first processors to hit the platforms. Some of these coolers appear to have been part of the 3D Renders that were released in Gigabyte’s documents last month.

AMD AM5 (LGA1718) Socket Details:

The AM5 LGA 1718 socket will have 1718 pins in an LGA (Land Grid Array) configuration. The AMD AM5 CPU platform will have six distinct TDP segments, beginning with the flagship 170W CPU class, which is suggested for liquid cooling (280mm or higher). It appears that this chip will be aggressively clocked, with higher voltages and support for CPU overclocking.

This is followed by 120W TDP CPUs, which need to be cooled with a high-performance air cooler. The 45-105W versions are described as SR1/SR2a/SR4 thermal segments, which imply they’ll just need conventional heatsink solutions while running in stock mode, so they won’t need much extra to stay cool.

AMD SP5 (LGA6096) Socket Details:

The SP5 LGA 6096 socket will have 6096 pins in an LGA (Land Grid Array) configuration. With 2002 more pins than the previous LGA 4094 socket, this will be AMD’s largest socket ever. Let’s speak about this socket’s power ratings now that we’ve covered its size and dimensions.

The LGA 6096 SP5 socket’s peak power is expected to reach up to 700W for 1ms, 440W for 10ms, and 600W for PCC. If the cTDP is exceeded, the EPYC chips in the SP5 socket will return to their original limitations in 30 milliseconds.
