An e pass is an electronically generated travel pass that was recently required for a road journey outside of one’s present district as part of various Covid-related restrictions enforced across HP, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and other states in India. Now, most of the states governments have removed the requirements for an e pass for traveling. So, people are no longer need to apply for an e pass now. But, in case if you still wish to know more about an e pass and how you can apply for it online. Then here we have every detail on what is an e pass and who should apply for the ePass, how to apply for it and status check, and the most common grounds for its denial.
Those wishing to go outside of their districts must obtain an e pass. However, government employees traveling on official business and emergency responders are excluded from this requirement.
According to current regulations, citizens of Maharashtra can only travel outside their districts for limited emergency reasons, such as acute medical emergencies, the death of a first relative, marriage, and so on.
The application must be submitted online at covid19.mhpolice, after which it will be forwarded to the local police jurisdiction for processing based on the applicant’s choice of origin.
Valid identity evidence, medical fitness certificate, wedding cards or related paperwork for marriage, medical report of those traveling for medical emergency or death certificate in the case of death, or a document for other emergency needs are all necessary.
To process the applications, each police jurisdiction has established separate cells. Officials stated that every effort is being made to clear the applications as soon as possible and no later than one day before the trip date.
For example, in Pune, three teams consisting of one police inspector, four assistant inspectors, three sub-inspectors, and 40 constables have been constituted to process applications around the clock under the supervision of a DCP.
Attachment of invalid or inadequate documents, non-attachment of a medical fitness certificate, the excess number of co-passengers than the government-mandated maximum, incomplete form, and non-attachment of images or attachment of unclear photos are common causes for e-pass rejection.
Those with an internet connection can apply for an e-pass at https://covid19.mhpolice.in/registration. Those who do not have access to the internet can apply for an e-pass at their local police station. They must bring relevant documents with them, such as a doctor’s certificate in case of a medical emergency or a death certificate if they are traveling interstate or interdistrict to conduct a family member’s final rites.
At the same time, those applying online must upload a scanned copy of the relevant documents. Each police station’s officers have been directed to assist them in filling out their e-pass application forms.
In city police, each application is sent to a zonal deputy commissioner of police, while in districts, the Superintendent of Police has the authority to approve or reject the application. The rules will also justify their decision, and they have been told to respond to the application as soon as possible.
A token ID is issued after an individual applies for an e-pass on the website mentioned above. Using these token IDs, the applicant can check the status of their application on the link (https://covid19.mhpolice.in/status). If the authorities authorized the application, it could be downloaded from the website; however, individuals who applied to a police station must pick it up from the police station where it was submitted.
The e-pass will include the applicant’s name, vehicle number, validity, number of passengers, and a QR code. The applicant must carry a soft or hard copy of the e-pass with them on their journey and show it at police checkpoints.
No. During the lockdown in 2020, the authorities responsible issued two sorts of passes: an e-pass for inter-city and inter-state travel and an essential service card. This year, however, everyone working in the financial sector, government, or any other vital service sector within the city must have their identity card on them.
“If anyone in any of the categories is traveling on a public holiday or weekend, they must either present a message or any relevant document proving that they have been called to work, or the person will be asked to return, or action will be taken against him,” Thane police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar said.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police department has developed its color-coding system. The red stickers are for individuals who work in medical emergency services, such as ambulances, doctors, nurses, and those who supply drugs and medical services. The green color represents food, vegetable, and grocery services.
All other essential services stated in the government decree, including all government officials and press/media individuals, are represented by the color yellow. “Anyone who falls into one of the three color groups can put it on their vehicle and travel,” said DCP S Chaitanya, a Mumbai police official.
Note: As per the current Covid-19 situation in the country, people no longer need to apply or carry an e pass for traveling from state to state or city to city in the country.
