1. Stop apps running in the background

The first thing people will do when they find their Kindle Fire becomes slower is to remove or delete apps from the device. This may work at the very beginning, but the device will get back to original slowness very soon. In this case, as long as you go to the device manager and check what happens in the background, you will find there are more things you can do.

Tap the top right-hand corner (the gear icon) on the Kindle Fire, select “More…”, then “Applications”. Go to “Filter by” and switch to “Running Applications”, you will find dozens of running apps displayed. Yes, all of them are running in the background! That’s why you only start one or two apps but your Kindle Fire lags!

Select an app and tap “Force stop”. Then tap the “back” icon to stop other unwanted apps one by one. After the clearance, you will find the device runs much faster.

Tip:
Kindle Fire HD owners can swipe down from the top of the Kindle Fire HD to get the setting bar.

2. Use a more thermolytic case or just bare it

Many people will buy a case or cover for their Kindle Fire to prevent daily scratches and scrapes. Mostly, people will choose leather cases, which appear simple, stable and practical. However, these cases (especially for those inferior ones) heavily stop the device from heat dissipating, and the device gets overheated easily. A recommended way is to put the tablet into a case when carrying it around, but strip the case when using. In addition, the built-in magnet inside those cases contributes to many unexpected screen lock.

3. Turn off Wi-Fi if possible

Many free apps come with ads, which are annoying and occupies device resources potentially. Fortunately, there will be no ads displayed if the Kindle Fire is not Wi-Fi connected. Even though the app you are running has no ad by itself, the apps running in the background (including some system-level apps) normally relates to auto updates and notifications, which depends on Wi-Fi connection as well. Once there is no Wi-Fi connection, those underlying apps will have no way to slow down your device.

Tap the gear icon in the top right-hand corner on the Kindle Fire to find the “Wi-Fi” button. Tap “OFF” to turn off the Wi-Fi connection on the Kindle Fire device.

4. Speed up the built-in browser

Another frustration of Kindle Fire is the slow web browsing. Unlike regular Android tablets, Kindle Fire comes with its own silk browser. Although Amazon claims this will make customers’ web-browsing experience more excellent, many folks only find it not perform as well as Google Chrome. Since Kindle Fire sets the silk browser to desktop mode by default, users can manually set it to mobile mode, which has turned out to be very helpful (together with two other settings).

Launch the built-in browser on the Kindle Fire, tap the menu icon at the bottom of the screen, then select “Settings”.  Tap to turn off “Enable plug-ins”, uncheck “Accelerate page loading” and switch “Desktop or mobile view” to “Mobile: Optimize for mobile view”.

5. Reset your Kindle Fire

If you have been despaired after an array of efforts, the last thing you can do will fall to a factory reset. Many people are reluctant to do so as everything on the device will be cleared, but this is the most efficient way to bring the device back to normal perfectness.

To proceed a factory reset, tap the gear icon at the top right-hand corner, tap “More…”, then scroll down to select “Device” and tap “Reset to Factory Defaults” on the bottom. Refer to this post to know more about Kindle reset.

Here my Kindle Fire has too little battery to perform a factory reset. As long as it is fully charged, there will be an “OK” button displayed. And people can easily do a factory reset.
