MacOS offers the best performance, security, and graphics, making it one of the top operating systems. Apple MacOS is the default operating system on all Apple computers. However, it is a little more expensive than other PCs due to its high-end capabilities. Updates are made to the Mac OS to improve and expand its capabilities. Mac OS X’s first public beta was released on September 13th, 2000. It had quick-loading applications like an MP3 player, a photo editor, a terminal, and other miniature applications. The first Apple operating system, macOS, was officially launched on March 24, 2001.

This marked the start of this incredible operating system. Now, macOS has several versions and is the best operating system in terms of security and performance.

Here is the list of all macOS operating systems. These are listed below with the release date and updated features.

macOS X Public beta: The public beta was released on September 13, 2000. It supports basic OS apps like MP3 players, text and HTML editors, and terminals.

macOS X v10.0 cheetah: Cheetah appeared on 24 March 2001. This was apple’s first major OS. A few features like PDF, sherlock, and protected memory was added to this version.

macOS X v10.1 Puma: This OS version was released on September 25, 2001, which includes DVD playback, Faster 3D, and improved AppleScript, file handling.

macOS X v10.2 jaguar: was released on August 23, 2002. It added the MPEG-4 support in quick time, Inkwell, and an address book.

macOS X v10.3(pinot) panther: appeared on October 24, 2003. New applications like Font book, Filevault, iChat AV, and safari were added to this version.

macOS X v10.4(merlot) Tiger: became available on April 29, 2005. Features like iChat AV, Mail 2, Safari RSS, Voice Over, and QuickTime 7 were updated in this version.

macOS X v10.4.4(Chardonnay) Tiger: was released on January 10th, 2006. It was the upgraded version of the macOS tiger.

macOS X v10.5(Chablis) Tiger: appeared on October 26 2007. New features like Spotlight, Photo Booth, Time Machine, and parental controls.

macOS X v10.6 Snow Tiger: Became available on August 28, 2009. More features and apps are updated in this version. Safari 4, voiceovers, the Mac app store, and more.

macOS X v10.7(Barolo) Lion: was released on July 20, 2011. New features like Font Book 3, Mail 5, FaceTime, Airdrop, and much more were added.

macOS X v10.8(Zinfandel) Mountain Lion: was released on July 25, 2012. Messages, gaming center, notification center, application updates, and more are included.

macOS X v10.9(Cabernet) Mavericks: appeared on 22 October 2013. Calendar, iBook, Maps, safari browser, and more were updated in this version.

macOS X 10.10(Syrah) Yosemite: became available on October 16, 2014. Spotlight, Continuity, Notification Center and more features were included.

macOS X v10.11(Gala) El Capitan: was released on 20 September 2015. Features like Safari, Maps, Mail, Spotlight, Notes, and more were updated.

macOS X v10.12(Fuji) Sierra: was released on 20 September 2016. Night Shift, Auto Unlock, Universal Keyboard, Siri, and more features were included.

macOS X v10.13(Lobo) High Sierra: appeared on 25 September 2017. This version includes improvements related to security, performance, and solution to technical issues.

macOS X v10.14(Liberty) Mojave: was released on 24 September 2018. Home apps, News, Dark mode, and more were included.

macOS X v10.15(Jazz) Catalina: appeared on October 7, 2019. Activation lock, Gatekeeper, Sidecar, Driverkit, and more features were included.

macOS X v10.16 Big Sur(Beta): This is a beta version launched in 2020. It includes further toggle tool optimization and bug fixes.
