The leaked details about AMD’s upcoming “Kraken Point” APU suggest it will be a significant step forward in their processor lineup. The Kraken Point APU is tipped to feature Zen 5 and Zen 5c CPU cores, along with RDNA 3.5 graphics. This combination marks a significant architectural enhancement from AMD, with the processor offering a premium hybrid CPU experience for the first time.

Specifically, the Kraken Point APU is expected to include four Zen 5 CPU cores and four Zen 5c CPU cores. The inclusion of RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture is notable, as it promises respectable levels of gaming performance.

This would be an improvement over the current Hawk Point APUs, which feature 6 Workgroup Processors (WGPs) or 12 Compute Units, compared to Kraken Point’s 4 WGPs or 8 Compute Units.

The Kraken Point APUs are geared towards the mainstream laptop market. They will likely come in an 8-core configuration, with the Zen 5 cores operating at higher clock speeds for performance and the Zen 5c cores focusing on efficiency.

The APU is expected to feature the latest XDNA 2 “Ryzen AI” engine, which could deliver almost 50 TOPs of AI NPU performance, making it highly suitable for the emerging AI PC market.

It’s important to note that these are leaked details and should be treated with some caution until confirmed by AMD. However, if accurate, these specs indicate that AMD’s Kraken Point could be a strong contender in the notebook processor market, especially for those looking for a balance between performance and efficiency.
