Xiaomi launched its first electric SUV, the YU7, in China on June 26, 2025, aiming to compete with the Tesla Model Y. This powerful and tech-packed SUV offers up to 681 horsepower, a long driving range, and super-fast charging.

Priced starting at $35,350, it’s slightly cheaper than the Model Y and has already gained massive attention, with 200,000 pre-orders in just three minutes. Here’s a simple overview of its features, specs, and why it’s making waves.

Price

  • Standard (Rear-Wheel Drive): ¥253,500 (~$35,350 or ₹29.7 lakh)
  • Pro (All-Wheel Drive): ¥279,900 (~$39,000 or ₹32.8 lakh)
  • Max (High-Performance All-Wheel Drive): ¥329,900 (~$46,000 or ₹38.7 lakh)

Key Features

  • Powerful Performance: The YU7 comes in three versions:
    • Standard: 320 horsepower, reaches 100 km/h in 5.88 seconds.
    • Pro: 489 horsepower, hits 100 km/h in 4.27 seconds.
    • Max: 681 horsepower, zooms to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds with a top speed of 253 km/h.
  • Long Range: The Standard model can go up to 835 km (519 miles) on a single charge, while the Pro and Max models offer 770 km and 760 km, respectively. These ranges are based on China’s CLTC test, which may be slightly lower in real-world conditions (around 600-650 km on highways).
  • Fast Charging: Uses an 800-volt system to charge from 10% to 80% in 12-21 minutes, adding up to 620 km of range in 15 minutes at compatible chargers.
  • Big Batteries: The Standard and Pro models have a 96.3 kWh battery (from BYD), while the Max uses a 101.7 kWh battery (from CATL).
  • Tech-Filled Interior: Features a massive 1.1-meter-wide “HyperVision” display with three Mini-LED screens, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for smooth performance, and a NVIDIA Thor chip for driver assistance. The cabin includes massage seats, a panoramic sunroof, and rear seats that recline to 135 degrees for comfort.
  • Safety: Built with a strong steel-aluminum body, a bullet-resistant battery shell, and over 50 safety tests. It has LiDAR, radar, cameras, and sensors for advanced driver assistance, like obstacle detection in bad weather.
  • Smart Features: Runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS, letting you control home devices like vacuums or cameras. You can use your iPhone as a digital key to unlock the car or open the trunk.

Design and Size

The YU7 is a mid-to-large SUV, measuring 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It’s bigger than the Tesla Model Y (4,797 mm long, 1,920 mm wide), offering more interior space, including 1,970 liters of storage.

Its sleek design, with nine color options like Emerald Green and Lava Orange, has drawn comparisons to the Ferrari Purosangue. The low hood and sporty look give it a premium, stylish vibe.

Price and Availability

The YU7 is currently available for pre-order in China through Xiaomi’s EV app or WeChat Mini Program, with deliveries starting in July 2025. Customers who pay a ¥5,000 deposit by July 31 get up to ¥66,000 in benefits, and SU7 buyers can switch to the YU7.

Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed global availability, but its showcase at Mobile World Congress 2025 suggests future international plans. The SUV is built in Xiaomi’s Beijing factory, with production ramping up after a new facility opened in July 2025.

The Xiaomi YU7 combines power, range, and cutting-edge tech at a competitive price, making it a serious rival to the Tesla Model Y in China’s booming EV market.
