Google has launched Gemini 3 Flash, a new AI model that combines strong reasoning with fast speed, and made it the default option in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. This update started rolling out on December 17, bringing quicker and smarter responses to everyday users worldwide without any extra cost.
Gemini 3 Flash builds on the Gemini 3 family, offering performance close to the more powerful Gemini 3 Pro but at much lower speed and price.
Google says it’s three times faster than older models while handling complex tasks like coding, analyzing images or videos, and planning. In tests, it scores high on tough benchmarks, sometimes matching or beating rivals like OpenAI’s latest offerings.
The big change is that Gemini 3 Flash now powers the Gemini app for everyone – replacing the previous default model.
In Google Search’s AI Mode, it’s the go-to for conversational answers, pulling in real-time info and visual results. US users also get access to Gemini 3 Pro for deeper thinking and advanced image tools.
For developers, the model is available through Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and other tools. It’s priced affordably at $0.50 per million input tokens and $3 per million output tokens, making it good for high-volume apps. Companies like JetBrains, Figma, and Cursor are already using it.
Google calls this one of its fastest rollouts ever, aiming to make advanced AI feel everyday. If you use the Gemini app or Search, you’ll notice snappier, more helpful replies starting now. Check the app or search for the upgrade – it’s free and automatic for most. This move keeps Google pushing hard in the AI race.
