A fresh leak claims Sony is preparing a big upgrade for the PlayStation 5 Pro called PSSR2, set to arrive sometime in 2026. This improved version of the console’s AI upscaling technology could deliver much better picture quality while using less graphics power and memory.
PSSR, or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, helps PS5 Pro games look sharper by upscaling lower-resolution images. The leak from YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) says PSSR2 will be a “huge” step forward, similar to the jump from AMD’s FSR 3 to FSR 4.
Developers will need to patch their games using a new tool, and it should fix common problems like blurry edges and poor anti-aliasing.
According to the report, PSSR2 cuts down on GPU time and memory needs, making games run smoother without sacrificing looks. It uses “Multi-Frame Super Resolution 2” tech internally and stays separate from AMD’s upcoming FSR 4 support, which PS5 Pro will also get next year.
Sony’s Mark Cerny hinted at this major PSSR update back in 2025, and recent developer documents match the leak. Some say it could arrive as early as Q1 2026, with patches for existing games like GTA 6 or Resident Evil.
Fans on Reddit and X are excited, calling it a “game-changer” for PS5 Pro owners. One post noted: “PSSR2 could push 70-80 FPS games higher while looking cleaner.”
