The Blackberry Torch 9800 is one of a range of handsets from RIM and will not disappoint those who have had one of this range before.  The Torch has a number of features which are very different to the other BlackBerry phones.  This is the first of their slider phones and also had the distinction of being the first of their phones to have a camera of 5 megapixels.

Overview
Reviewers are divided on the overall design of the phone.  Some consider the slider feature to be a little clunky while others think it is fine.  It is fair to say that the designers have wanted to create a phone which would still appeal to those have had a BlackBerry before but at the same time wanted something a little more innovative.  The handset still boasts a good keyboard although it has a very different feel than the other BlackBerry keyboards.  Those who have used a Blackberry before will find that it is very easy to get used to and there will be no noticeable difference in the way that they send texts and emails.

Screen
The screen on the Blackberry Torch 9800 measures 3.2 inches and it has a touchscreen function.  The key layout below the screen is the same as for other BlackBerry handsets and there is also an optical trackpad.

Power and Memory
The processor in the handset is not the best but at the same time it does work quite well for the requirements of this phone.  The internal memory is 4GB which is not bad but you will find a slot for a microSD card so you can add a further 32GB if you want to. As with most BlackBerry phones you get a good battery life with light users getting several days from it, although heavy users may need to charge after a day.

Using the Phone
The operating system is BlackBerry 6 and it has a very modern feel to it when compared to the systems on older handsets.  You can move the icons on the homescreen if you want to, make them bigger or add your own widgets. The settings pages are much easier to navigate and the whole thing is far more user friendly than previous BlackBerry handsets.  The manufacturer has also given the handset a good browser, so when you surf the internet you will find it fast and efficient.

Camera
The 5 megapixel camera has plenty of helpful features too.  It is equipped with autofocus, an LED flash and even face detection software.  You can take video footage and uploading it to your social networking sites or sending via email is easy.

Is it for You?
Reviewers have declared that this is the way a slider phone should be and have urged other manufacturers to sit up and take notice!  This means that when you are in the market for a new handset you should consider this particular model as it will more than meet the needs of the average smartphone user.
