Apple at the WWDC keynote event last month announced its new iOS 14 operating system with tons of exciting new features. iOS 14 is the latest version of Apple’s Operating system that runs on iPhones. In this post here, I will be talking about the top features Apple has introduced in the latest iOS 14. So, let’s head to the post below to know more.

iOS 14: Top Features

1- Widgets on the Home Screen

The first thing that Apple has added in the iOS 14 is the Widgets on the Home Screen. Now, Apple has redesigned the Widgets that see on the Home Screen. You will now get a more clear looking widgets and the ability to add the Widgets on your Home Screen. Apple, says that the widget can be added in different sizes arranging according to your need.

You can also add a smart stack of widget including all the apps you used the most, so you can get quickly get access to those apps on the home screen, this comes pretty handily though.

2- App Library

App Library, iOS 14 also brings new App Library that now looks quite clean and organized as it now automatically organizes all of your apps into one simple, easy‑to‑navigate view, (see below). The new app library now shows you apps shorted by categories and your most-used apps in one place.

3- Compact calls

Another cool and pretty handy feature the iOS 14 adds is the ‘Compact calls‘. The new Compact calls will now show all of your calls from your iPhone, FaceTime, and third‑party apps display in an all‑new compact design at the top of your screen. The idea is to provide you access to the rest of the screen while you take a call without taking up the full screen.

4- Picture in Picture

iOS 14 also adds Picture in Picture mode, this will now allow you to keep watching your favorite videos or continue your FaceTime call while you use another app.

5- Message

  • Pinned conversations in Message

This is another great feature that I find useful when you don’t want to miss a conversation and want to stay connected to the conversations that matter most.

The Pinned conversation features in iOS 14 allow you to Pin, up to nine of your most important conversations to the top of your conversation list, so you can easily catch up with the conversation you want to miss.

  • Group photos

You can now also add a photo or Memoji, or choose an emoji to your group conversation.

  • Mentions

In the message, you can also mention someone by typing a name to direct a message to someone. When you mention someone in your message or someone else mentions you in the message, you will see your name or the other person’s name highlighted in blue color.

  • Inline replies

With Inline replies, you can reply directly to a specific message in a group conversation. You can view replies in the full conversation or as their thread for a more focused view.

6- New Memoji styles and stickers

iOS 14 along with the new age options and face coverings, also brings over 20 new hair and headwear styles to reflect your hobby, profession, and personality.

7- Maps

The new enhanced map in iOS 14 now gets shows cycling directions using cycle lanes, paths, and roads. The new is also shows your elevation, busy streets, stairs, and steep passages when planning your trip.

In iOS 14, the map now also has a new Electric vehicle routing feature, which shows you charging stations along the way for your electric car and the map can also track your current vehicle charge and factor in things like elevation to automatically add charging stops along the way.

8- Translate

iOS 14 introduces the all-new Translate app that is designed for conversations across 11 different languages. The new Translate app features Conversation mode, where you can translate just by turning your phone to landscape and tap the single microphone button to say something.

There is also a new On‑device mode feature in the new translate app. It allows you to download any available offline language so you can use them to translate later when your device is not connected to the internet. You can also Save translations in the Favourites tab for easy access later and use Attention mode to enlarge translated text in landscape view for an easy read.

9- New Compact Siri

in iOS 14, Siri comes with a new compact view to provide you quick information or get things done while still focusing on what you’re doing. Siri now also has 20x more facts and you can now also easily send audio messages with Siri.

10- Home App

iOS 14 also new enhancements to the Home App to better manage your smart home more intelligently. The new Home app now suggests you use automation when you add a new  HomeKit accessory to your home. The app also gets a new visual status in the Home app prioritizes to let you easily control accessories.

  • Face Recognition: the new Home app now also allows your video cameras and doorbells to identify people you’ve tagged in the Photos app
  • Adaptive Lighting: Adaptive Lightinglets you set your lights to change color temperature throughout the day

11- Safari

  • Translation: the new Safari in iOS 14 now lets you translate websites in seven different languages.
  • Performance: the new Safari now comes with a blazing‑fast JavaScript engine, where Safari now delivers up to 2x faster JavaScript performance than Chrome on Android.
  • Password monitoring: the new Safari now warns you if a password you’re using is not secure

12- Car keys and CarPlay

CarPlay is now more powerful, iOS 14 now adds the ability to unlock and start your car with your iPhone. You can now also easily share keys with your friends and family and can also customize controls and create restricted profiles.

The new CarPlay in iOS 14 now also comes with a set of new wallpapers and now also supports new app types — parking, electric vehicle charging, and quick food ordering.

13- AirPods

  • Surround Sound: iOS 14 also brings surround sound to the AirPods to further enhance your music listing experience.
  • Battery Notifications: iOS 14 also adds new battery notifications to let you know he need to charge your AirPods.
  • Automatic Switching: in iOS 14 if you finish a phone call on your iPhone and pick up your iPad to watch a movie, AirPods automatically switch over.

Enhanced Privacy

iOS 14, you now get information on the App Store to help you understand the privacy practices of every app before you download it. This now also allows you to share only your approximate location rather than your exact location.
