According to games research firm IDG Consulting, the cost of game development has increased between 200% and 300%. This hike in the development cost of games could also result in increasing the price of other games coming for PS5 and Xbox Series X. According to IDG, publishers are considering raising the price of other games for PS5 and Xbox Series X following the price of the NBA 2K21 for the next-gen console.

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, IDG President and CEO Yoshio Osaki said that next-gen console game production costs have increased by 200% to 300%, depending on the IP, studio and genre.

NBA 2K21 Price on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Following this, GamesIndustry following a report discussed by former PlayStation exec Shawn Layden during the Gamelab conference last month said that NBA 2K21 will have a recommended price of $69.99 / £64.99 when it launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X this year. That’s $10 more than the price of the PS4 and Xbox One version.

According to the report, upcoming games for next-gen consoles will cost $10 more than the PS4 and Xbox One version, which currently has a recommended price of $59.99/£59.99.

This is because the development costs for making games for next-gen consoles are expected to increase. However, it is suggested that the development cost of games for next-could be reduced by creating shorter games.

NBA 2K21 Editions

NBA 2K21 is now available for pre-order in three different editions across all platforms including PS4, Xbox One and the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X.

NBA 2K21 Standard Edition for PS4 and Xbox One is available for pre-order at $59.99. On the other hand, the Standard Edition of the game is listed at $69.99 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Notably, the digital items included with pre-order for both versions remain the same.

NBA 2K21 Bryant-fronted Mamba Forever Edition Price

There is also a Kobe Bryant-fronted Mamba Forever Edition is available for pre-order across all platforms for $99.99/£84.99, and will feature a host of extra digital content.

We are not sure that every game that launches for the next-gen console should cost at $69.99. But since publishers are considering raising the price of other games for PS5 and Xbox Series X. We could see a $10 increase in the price of some other game at launch for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
