At the end of the year, Sony Interactive Entertainment will herald the new generation of consoles with the PlayStation 5. Despite everything, the company wants to continue supporting the PlayStation 4 with high-quality games.
In recent weeks it has become apparent that Sony Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft are taking different approaches in the new generation of consoles. While Microsoft is pursuing a cross-generation approach, at least at the beginning of the next-gen era, Sony Interactive Entertainment has relied on games from the start that will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
Speaking to Geoff Keighley, Eric Lempel, PlayStations Head of Worldwide Marketing, looked to the future and pointed out that the company does not want to let PlayStation 4 drop quickly.
“PlayStation 4 is a big part of everything we do, and will continue to be a big part of everything we do,” said Lempel. “There is a lot more to come from PlayStation 4. I think we’re seeing some of the greatest titles of this generation release in recent weeks, and that will continue.”
“PlayStation 5 is the next-generation product, but we’ve got a lot to come for people on PlayStation 4. There’s still a ton of life in that product,” said Lempel, without going into more detail about possible titles that could be announced for the PS4 in the coming months.
The PlayStation 5 will appear in this year’s Christmas season. So far, Sony Interactive Entertainment has not been able to elicit a specific price and release date of the next-gen console of Sony.
