Marvel’s Avengers Will Not Support Drop-In or Cross-Play Co-op at Launch

The developers of Marvel’s Avengers answered further questions about the upcoming superhero game in a blog post. They announced that it would not be possible to join an ongoing multiplayer game.

In a blog post on the official Square Enix website, those responsible announced that the superhero game will not support Join In-Progress. This means that in co-op mode you will not be able to join an ongoing match.

If a player folds during a game, his seat is taken over by a computer-controlled bot. You could already see this in the beta version of the game. So you shouldn’t start your match until your team is complete. Your friends do not have the option to join the match afterwards.

For a modern co-op game, this would definitely have been a useful feature. However, Crystal Dynamics mentions that this feature is just not supported at this time. We think it is very possible that a patch will be submitted at a later date that will bring such a feature into the game.

In addition, the matchmaking confirmed that you will enter a lobby with roughly equal players. The system filters the players according to their skills. As in many other multiplayer titles, you can expect skill-based matchmaking. This naturally raises the question of how exactly the level of difficulty will turn out if there are players with different levels of ability on the same team.

According to the blog article, the average value of the team is calculated, so to speak, whereby an appropriate level of difficulty should come about for each player.

There will also be a quick play option for the co-op missions. However, in this case, you cannot choose your character yourself in order to be able to start a match quickly.

Marvel’s Avengers will be released on September 4th for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia. There will be no crossplay support. A few days ago another War Table Livestream was confirmed, which will reveal more details about the game to you.
