New Media Player for Windows 11 Accidentally Teased by Microsoft

Let the games begin! Microsoft appears to have inadvertently teased a new Media Player for Windows 11 before removing the video that demonstrated the program in operation. During the Windows Insider webcast, Microsoft accidentally shared a screenshot of an unreleased app titled “Media Player”.

The application’s name is as generic as they come, which is a good thing in this situation. The software looks to be a replacement for the Movies & TV app, which is presently part of the operating system but hasn’t been updated in a long time.

In reality, the most recent significant upgrade for Movies & TV was with the Windows 10 Creators Update, with minor tweaks in the Fall Creators Update.

Returning to Media Player, the new app was first revealed in a video that was then kept private. This is a peek at the forthcoming app from the Windows Insider Webinar, which will be available on devices running the Windows 11 preview version.

Unlike the Movies & TV app, Media Player has a few new features that simplify media viewing on Windows 11 devices. For starters, we have an application that uses the WinUI 2.6 interface components that are currently seen in most modern OS mailbox programs.

Second, we have the option to shuffle the media playlist and change the tune. Users will be able to move around their video library.

The new app’s efficiency will also be boosted by its feature integration with the Photos app.

It’s conceivable that the Media Player moniker is only a placeholder for the program, and Microsoft will stick with the present Movies & TV branding. However, Redmond has lately altered the titles of built-in Windows apps, and there’s no better time than now to do so.

We’re sure to hear more about this in the near future. If this new Media Player software is to become a reality, that is.
