A new AMD APU called the Ryzen 6000 series is on the way, and it will likely debut in notebooks at CES 2022. Along with DisplayPort 2.0 support, the Ryzen 6000 series will come with WiFi 6E and Wi-Fi 6E, and AMD has teamed up with MediaTek to develop a new WLAN module that will let notebook vendors ditch Intel-sourced WLAN modules. Aside from the new DisplayPort 2.0 port, the new processors will also feature AMD SmartShift MAX and ECO.
The AMD Ryzen 6000 “Rembrandt” processors will come with hardware accelerated decoding for the AV1 video format, DisplayPort 2.0, DSC, UHBR10, and HDR10+, and variable refresh rates.
These processors also feature an iGPU with up to 12 compute units and 768 stream processors. This would make it possible for the Ryzen 6000 APU to display HDR content at up to 4K resolution, which would require Ray Accelerators. The new AMD Ryzen 6000 APUs will have DisplayPort 2.0 ports, too, which is a big deal for gamers.
The AMD Ryzen 6000 APUs have similar performance levels as the previous generation, but they offer a lower power consumption and more memory bandwidth.
The new processors will also be compatible with many of the latest technologies, including DDR5 memory up to 4800 MT/s, USB4 for up to 40 Gbps, and HDMI 2.1. AMD also promised to release over two hundred notebooks with the new chipsets.
