Sony has launched a beta version of a new PlayStation 5 system update. The update introduces a feature that lets the DualSense wireless controller pair with multiple devices more easily. This update is currently available only to invited beta testers in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, and France. Here’s what’s new and how it works.

Key Feature: DualSense Multi-Device Pairing

  • Easy Switching: The update allows the DualSense controller to quickly connect to different devices, like your PS5, PC, Mac, or mobile phone, without needing to re-pair each time. You can switch between devices using a new on-screen menu or by pressing a button combination on the controller.
  • Saved Connections: The controller can now save connection details for multiple devices, making it faster to jump between gaming on your PS5 and streaming on a phone or PC.
  • How It Works: After updating the PS5 and the DualSense controller’s firmware, you can pair it with other devices like a PC or phone. A new “Device Switcher” option lets you select which device to connect to without unplugging cables or resetting Bluetooth settings.

Other Updates

  • Improved System Stability: The beta includes general fixes to make the PS5 run more smoothly and reduce crashes.
  • Better User Interface: Minor tweaks to the PS5’s home screen and settings make navigation easier and clearer.

How to Join the Beta

The beta is invite-only, sent to select PlayStation Network users in supported countries (US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, France).

If you’re invited, you’ll get an email with instructions to download the beta software from the PS5 Settings menu under System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Be aware that beta updates can have bugs, and you may need to revert to the stable version if issues arise.

Availability

The multi-device pairing feature is currently in beta and limited to invited testers. Sony hasn’t confirmed when it will roll out to all PS5 users, but successful beta features typically become available within a few months.

The update works with both the standard DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. For now, testers can try it on PS5, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.

This update makes the DualSense controller more versatile, letting you switch between gaming devices quickly and easily, enhancing the experience for PS5 owners and multi-platform gamers.
