On Wednesday, HMD Global release Android 9 Pie update for the Nokia 6 (2017) and Nokia 8 smartphones. Now it looks like another Nokia device is ready to taste Pie finally. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global today announced that Nokia 2.1 is now finally started receiving the latest Android 9 Pie update in India.
Nokia 2.1 is the cheapest Nokia device which was launched last year. The affordable Nokia 2.1 comes with a with a big 5.5-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with 1GB of RAM and large 4000mAh battery. Devices with 1GB of RAM usually consider as to be an Android Go device.
Notably, Nokia has been struggling with its Nokia 2 device to bring the Android Oreo update for quite some time now. Considering the fact that, to be able to run the Android Oreo 8, a device requires at least 2GB of RAM. Since the Nokia 2 doesn’t come with 2GB of RAM Nokia tried to upgrade the Nokia 2 to Android 8.1 Oreo by also porting some features from Android GO.
Now, after months of beta testing, HMD Global now finally manages to bring the exclusive Android Oreo 8.1 update to the Nokia 2 users who have been in the beta test for quite some time now. Now, Nokia will send the OTA notification on eligible devices to get the Android Oreo update on the Nokia 2.
But the Oreo update for the Nokia 2 devices can only be downloaded on mobile networks that have already approved the use of Android Oreo, thankfully, India is on the list.
