After all the hype that was going around the launch date of Sony’s next-generation gaming console PlayStation 5. Sony today finally announced that the next-generation PlayStation console will be called PlayStation 5 and it will be launched in the Holiday season of 2020. WIRED magazine has covered more details on the upcoming PlayStation 5 in a blog post that went live today. The post also includes a preview of the new controller that will ship with PlayStation 5.
Sony also revealed that there will be two features coming to the new PlayStation 5 controller called the haptic technology and adaptive triggers. First, it includes replacing the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles.
The second innovation which Sony talks about in its blog post is called Adaptive Triggers that will be incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2). The Adaptive Triggers will let developers program the resistance of the triggers so that players feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.
Sony has announced that more details will be available in the next coming weeks.
To recall, during its Corporate Strategy Meeting this year in May. Sony revealed that the next-generation PS5 will have an “immersive” gaming experience and “seamless” PlayStation Now online performance. All thanks to significantly improved graphics performance and improved cloud systems.
Sony has also confirmed that its next-gen PS5 console will come with third-generation, 8-core AMD Ryzen CPU built with 7-nanometer Zen 2 microarchitecture, alongside a customized Radeon Navi GPU capable of ray tracing.
