Nintendo President Finally Apologizes for Joy-Con Drift Issues

President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa officially apologized today because of the problem of Joy-Con controllers which eventually became known as “Joy-Con Drift.”

Noticed and criticized since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, the Joy-Con Drift has still not been corrected by Nintendo. A design or manufacturing issue that affects many players around the world. A situation that still forced the CEO of Nintendo to apologize publicly.

“Regarding the Joy-Con, we apologize for any trouble caused to our customers,” said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa in a question and answer session with investors. “We are continuing to aim to improve our products, but as the Joy-Con is the subject of a class-action lawsuit in the United States and this is still a pending issue, we would it like to refrain from responding about any specific actions.”

The apology is the company’s first public statement of its kind since the “Joy-Con Drift” problem began to be reported about a year ago. The “Joy-Con Drift” refers to a large number of cases in which the analogue controller took on “a life of its own” and started to move even if the player did nothing.

Last year, multiple users around the world reported that the controllers registered a movement, although the user is not manipulating them. The severity and periodicity of the problem varies, but it was present in a large percentage of users.

The problem was reported both in the standard Switch Joy-Cons and in the Switch Lite consoles, which has controllers integrated into the console body. In July last year, a class-action lawsuit was filed in the United States against Nintendo for the defect.

Nintendo recognized the problem and, in the same month, announced the gratuity to fix the “Joy-Con Drift” issues.
