According to a new report from Economics Times, Apple has now started manufacturing of its top of the line iPhone 11 in India (two senior industry executives told ET). The latest move from Apple comes as part of the Indian Government’s Make in India initiatives and to cut down the dependence on China. According to the report, Apple iPhone 11 manufacturing is now started at the Foxconn plant near Chennai.
The report says that iPhone 11 production in India will be in phases and will also save Apple 22% import duty. This could result in a reduction in the iPhone 11 price in the country. However, Apple hasn’t announced any price cut yet on made in China iPhone 11 selling in India.
Further, the report says that Apple is also considering a plan to make the new iPhone SE at the Wistron plant near Bengaluru. Notably, Apple is currently selling the iPhone 11 made in China.
But according to the two industry executives, this could be an option for Apple in future. But, as per the report from ET, Apple India didn’t respond to queries yet.
The news is really great for all the iPhone lovers in India. To recall, Apple launched the new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max in India last year on September 10.
