Brisbane offers the perfect blend between a modern metropolis, with skyscrapers piercing the sky, and small-town charm. You only have to travel for a short while and you would already find yourself on the beach or a national park, where you can hike, camp, and soak in the fresh air. The city also features several parks that break the monotony of concrete, high-rises, and the crowd.

Brisbane is known for its rural escapes and you do not even have to wait for the weekend to hop on your car or motorcycle and cap the day with dinner at The Overflow Estate in Wyaralong or the Wild Canary Resto in Brookfield.

The cost of living in Brisbane is also very affordable, as it is cheaper compared to other cities like Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne. It means you have more money to spoil yourself. For instance, you can upgrade your entertainment system with a home theatre installation in Brisbane.

However, if you already have an entertainment system, you might be wondering how frequently you need to upgrade your toys.

It depends actually as there are several factors to consider, such as your budget for instance. Also, unlike desktop computers and smartphones, audio technology on home theatre speakers last for a long time. Their fidelity does not degrade quickly and the average Australian would not distinguish the minute dropoff in audio quality.

For example, here are the technology upgrades of the surround sound:

  • The surround sound debuted in the Disney movie Fantasia in 1953. Although it was a commercial failure, it showcased what a good set of speakers can enhance the viewer experience.
  • The five-channel technology was used in the movie Tommywhen it was released in 1975. The 5.1 surround sound followed a year later. It took a few years, however, before movies featured the 5.1 surround sound. When the DVD was the default format in 1997, it already extensively used 5.1 surround sound.
  • A sixth speaker was then added at the back of the room, right in the centre. Due to its location, it was often referred to as the rear surround. It is helpful to provide the listener with that sensation as if somebody is creeping up on them from behind. It was seen in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menacein May 1999.
  • The 1 Dolby surround was featured in Toy Story 3 in 2010. The technology is also used as the new format for Blu-ray, HD DVD, and high-definition TVs. Now, instead of a single rear speaker, there are two. Dolby also introduced TrueHD, which nixes lossy compression on the discrete audio channels. It will supposedly mimic the sound as the studio master intended.

As you can see, it takes years for new technology to catch up. So, you can invest in a home theatre installation in Brisbane without worrying about upgrading your systems just two or three years from now.

The audiophile would definitely notice the difference in the drop in audio quality and would want to upgrade their systems. However, it is best to call in professional technicians to inspect the sound path, including the cables and amplifier, as well as the digital to analog converter.  Sometimes, upgrading these would do wonders for your home theatre system.
