At the PlayStation 5 event on September 16, Warner Bros. revealed Hogwarts Legacy, a new RPG based on the Harry Potter book series. Due to recent controversies, many have wondered if J.K. Rowling, the author of the books, is involved in the project and Warner Bros. has already clarified the situation.

On a page dedicated to common questions, Warner Bros. confirmed that J.K. Rowling is not directly involved with the creation of the game. That said, they acknowledge that their work is the foundation on which they are building Hogwarts Legacy.

In a statement sent to Kotaku, Warner Bros. declined to comment on whether J.K. Rowling will receive any kind of royalty from the sale of this game.

Another important point is that Warner Bros. confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be a new original story within the Harry Potter universe. This means that it is an adventure that is not based on any of the books by the British author.

“J.K. Rowling was not involved in the creation of the game. J.K. Rowling is supportive of Portkey Games, which are authentic to the Wizarding World, and has entrusted the design and creation of the games to WB Games and the developers involved,” was noted in the FAQ.

Hogwarts Legacy will take us back to the 19th century to live the life of a Hogwarts student. Thus, we will have the opportunity to enjoy this school of magic and sorcery as we have never done before.

Hogwarts Legacy is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC in 2021.
