PlayStation 5 Fan Will Be Adjusted Via Firmware Updates

Sony has undoubtedly invested a lot of time and resources studying the various cooling systems of the PlayStation 5, in order to make its next-gen console work at the best possible lowest temperature.

In a recent interview, Yasuhiro Otori of Sony, in charge of the team dedicated to the mechanical and thermal design of PS5, has unveiled new details on the optimizations that will be released via firmware updates over the next few years, which will (also) regulate the operation of the PlayStation 5 fan.

These are the words of Otori, released on the 4gamer.net site:

Various games will be released in the future, and data on the APU’s (Accelerated Processing Unit) behaviour in each game will be collected. We have a plan to optimise the fan control based on this data. PS5 has three temperature sensors on the main board to control the fan speed based on the internal temperature of the APU and the highest temperature of the three temperature sensors. These fan control parameters will also be updated via online updates.

A few days ago Sony intervened to explain how some of the most important decisions related to the size of PS5 (and what it contains within it) were made. Furthermore, in a careful teardown, the console has been disassembled piece by piece, to reveal to the world all the components that will make it a reality in the coming weeks.

PlayStation 5 will be launched on November 12th.
