PS5 Backwards Compatibility Warning Added To Every PS4 Game on PS Store

The vast majority of PS4 games can be played on the PS5. But every now and then there may be restrictions. Sony started by tagging the games on the PlayStation Store.

Sony announced a few days ago that there may be restrictions and special features when using the PS5 backward compatibility. In order to make customers aware of this in the PlayStation Store too, the company began to provide the product pages with a standard notice.

In it, Sony first emphasizes that PS5 players should always make sure that they have the latest firmware installed on the upcoming console. Certain functions could also shine through their absence.

The PSN notice for The Last of Us Part 2 sounds like this: “To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent.”

While some publications mention a “warning about backward compatibility”, it should be noted that the text only draws attention to the peculiarities of backward compatibility and at the same time advises keeping the console up to date.

Correspondingly, in the further course of the text there is a reference to the official Sony support page: “You can find detailed information on this at PlayStation.com/bc.”

On the linked page, Sony advises that before buying an add-on, you should first check whether the respective PS4 game on the PlayStation 5 meets your own requirements. In addition, the company emphasizes that some PS4 games, when played on PS5 consoles, may experience errors or unexpected behavior.

With around 4,000 backwards compatible games , it cannot of course be ruled out that one or the other title may cause problems at certain points. Ultimately, however, don’t worry too much at first. But don’t necessarily assume that all games on the PS5 run exactly as you are used to on the PlayStation 4. Occasionally, however, advantages can also be achieved via the boost mode.
