AMD has announced the Ryzen 7000 desktop series, the first of its new line of processors. The new processors line includes Ryzen 5 7600X, Ryzen 7 7700X, Ryzen 9 7900X and Ryzen 9 7950X. The new processors are based on the Socket AM5 platform, which offers the best connectivity options, including up to 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes. AMD is also supporting PCIe 5.0 memory and PCIe Gen 5 devices. The Socket AM5 platform is expected to be supported through 2025.
The Ryzen 7000 series will be powered by the Zen 4 microarchitecture and feature up to 16 cores and 32 threads. They are built on the highly advanced TSMC 5nm process node, and are expected to deliver dominating performance. AMD claims that the Ryzen 7950X processor will provide up to a 29% boost in single-core performance, 15% faster gaming performance in select games, and a 27% improvement in performance-per-watt.
The AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop series is designed to be high-performance and adaptive. The new chipsets will feature AMD’s new Zen 4 architecture and utilize AMD’s new AM5 socket. AMD also claims that the new chipset will provide faster single-thread and multi-threaded performance, as well as higher CPU performance pr watt.
The flagship Ryzen 9 7950X processor in the Ryzen 7000 series is said to compare well to Intel’s newest 12-core Core i9-12900K.

While the original announcement date was set for September 29, AMD has now confirmed that the Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs will launch on September 27th, coincident with Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs.
