Let’s dive in and take control of your WhatsApp calling experience like never before!

How to Block Unknown Calls on WhatsApp

Currently, WhatsApp does not provide a direct feature to block unknown calls specifically. However, you can take certain steps to minimize or avoid receiving calls from unknown callers on WhatsApp. Here’s what you can do:

Silence Calls from Unknown Callers on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has also introduced a new Silence Unknown Callers feature within this WhatsApp app. You can enable this feature to silence calls from unknown callers on WhatsApp, you can follow these steps:

By enabling this setting, you can ensure that incoming calls on WhatsApp don’t cause your device to ring or vibrate, effectively silencing them. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open WhatsApp and go to “Settings.”
  • Select “Privacy”, now scroll down and look for the “Calls” option
  • Tap on “Calls” and toggle the button to enable the “Silence Unknown Callers” feature

Below are some additional options which you can use to prevent unknown activity or block calls from unknown callers on your WhatsApp.

Adjust privacy settings:

WhatsApp offers several privacy settings that can help you control who can contact you. You can manage these settings to limit calls from unknown contacts. Here’s how:

  • Open WhatsApp and go to “Settings, click on the three dots at the top right side “
  • Go to “Privacy
  • Under “Privacy,” you’ll find options like “Last Seen and Online” “Profile Photo,” “About” “Status” and “Blocked.”
  • Adjust the settings according to your preference. For example, you can set “Profile Photo,” “About,” and “Status” to be visible only to your contacts. This way, unknown users won’t be able to see your details and may be less likely to call you.

Block specific contacts:

Although you cannot directly block unknown calls, you can still block specific contacts that are bothering you. If you receive repeated calls from a specific contact that you want to block, follow these steps:

  • Open WhatsApp and go to the chat with the contact you want to block.
  • Tap on the contact’s name at the top of the chat.
  • Scroll down and select “Block” or “Report and Block” (the option may vary depending on your device).
  • Confirm your action when prompted.

Ignore and decline unknown calls:

When you receive a call from an unknown contact, you can simply choose to ignore the call and let it ring until it stops. If the same unknown contact continues to call you persistently, you can decline the call. They will eventually get the message that you’re not interested in answering their calls.

Report spam:

If you receive unwanted calls from unknown numbers or contacts that seem like spam or harassment, you can report them to WhatsApp. Reporting such contacts helps WhatsApp identify and take appropriate actions against spammers or violators of their terms of service. To report a contact:

  • Open the chat with the unknown contact.
  • Tap on the contact’s name at the top of the chat.
  • Select “Report.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to report the contact.

Remember, these measures can help reduce unwanted calls, but they might not completely eliminate them. It’s always a good practice to be cautious while sharing your phone number and contact details online to avoid unnecessary calls from unknown sources.

By implementing these steps, you can effectively silence calls from unknown callers on WhatsApp. However, keep in mind that this will silence all incoming calls, including those from your known contacts as well. Adjust the settings according to your preference to strike a balance between blocking unwanted calls and receiving important calls from trusted sources.
