Tencent, a company operating in various sectors for entertainment, mass media, internet, and mobile phones in China, after taking part in numerous projects related to the gaming world, has now decided to open a subsidiary in Los Angeles of Lightspeed & Quantum.
Chinese technology giant Tencent unveiled plans to open a new studio in the United States focused on producing AAA games. The name of this new location will be Lightspeed Studio and we already know that it will develop an AAA game for the next PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.
At the head of this new project, covering the role of executive producer, there will be the ex-executive of Rockstar Games: Steve Martin, who boasts in his resume works of the highest prestige such as Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Through a short press release, he stated that: “We’re ushering a new era of game culture by combining world-class development with a stress-free work environment. From day one, our teams will be focused on building the highest caliber games while promoting integrity, proactivity, collaboration, and creativity.”
Not only Martin, but other big names from numerous leading studios such as Respawn Entertainment, Insomniac Games and 2K Games, will take part in this new project. We will just have to wait and see how the new Lightspeed & Quantum subsidiary will surprise us. The studio’s mission is to create a “crunch-free and maximum inclusive” environment.
The studio’s first work would be an open-world game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Details about the AAA project from LightSpeed are still unknown. Some media have suggested that this is a shooter title Project SYN, a demo of which appeared on YouTube recently.
